Imjingak

임진각

Imjingak is the last place you can reach without permission. Everything beyond it — the tunnel, the observatory, the station — needs an ID check and a booked seat, and all three depart from here. Treat it as both a destination and a departure gate.

Language

Ribbons and Korean-peninsula flags tied along the wire fence at Imjingak

Hours notes
The DMZ Peace Tour closes on Seollal and Chuseok themselves only; the rest of each holiday runs normally. Paju publishes no opening or closing time for the grounds themselves, and states only that admission is free; the clocks above belong to the two ticketed operations inside. The gondola sells until 30 minutes before it stops running, which is the rule the operator publishes rather than a time. It also closes on national safety-inspection days, which have no schedule and so are not a rule here. Camp Greaves, listed alongside the gondola on the same fare page, is a separate facility with its own hours and its own closing days — including every Monday, which the gondola does not keep.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need ID to visit Imjingak?

Not for Imjingak itself. You do for anything that crosses into the Civilian Control Zone — the DMZ Peace Tour and the gondola both check it, and neither accepts a photo or screenshot of an ID.

How much is the Imjingak Peace Gondola?

12,000 won return for an adult in a standard cabin and 15,000 in the crystal cabin; 10,000 and 13,000 for a child. Paju residents pay 7,000 and 9,000 with an ID and a residence certificate issued within six months.

What is the Freedom Bridge?

The bridge 12,773 prisoners of war crossed on foot returning south in 1953. It is a six-span timber flat bridge 83 m long and about 8 m high, built on the piers of a bombed Gyeongui Line rail bridge.

What is there for children?

Pyeonghwa-Nuri is a 20,000-capacity grass park with an open-air stage and large outdoor installations, including a hillside of around 3,000 pinwheels. It is free, and none of it requires ID.
