The departure time you book decides how you go down. Paju marks each shuttle either monorail or on foot, and describes the walking route as cramped and steeply graded — which is why the operator publishes a list of who may be refused entry.

Hours notes: Seollal and Chuseok close the day itself only; the rest of each holiday runs normally. The tunnel has no hours of its own — it is reached only on Paju's DMZ Peace Tour, and the times above are that tour's ticket office at Imjingak. It often sells out earlier than 14:30. Individual shuttles leave ten times a day Tuesday to Friday, from 09:20 to 14:40, and fourteen times at weekends; each departure is designated monorail or walking. Collection closes 20 minutes before departure for an online booking and 10 minutes before for a walk-up, and everyone is identity-checked before a ticket is issued. Paju adds that the whole schedule can stop without notice for a security situation or bad weather, cancelling existing bookings — that has no schedule, so it stays here rather than becoming a closure rule. Online tickets for monorail sessions are sold at the walking-course price, with the lift charge paid separately on site. Under the notice dated 23 September 2026, the 09:20 session is available only at the on-site ticket office.

Imjingak is the last place you can reach without permission. The individual A-course of the DMZ Peace Tour leaves from Imjingak, visits the Third Infiltration Tunnel, Dora Observatory and Tongilchon, then returns to Imjingak. Treat it as both a destination and a departure gate.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Paju DMZ Peace Tour?

9,200 won for an adult walking into the tunnel and 12,200 with the monorail. Of either figure, 5,000 is the facility fee and 4,200 is the shuttle bus. A group of 30 or more with its own coach pays 4,000.

Can I drive to the Third Tunnel or Dora Observatory?

No. Both are inside the Civilian Control Zone and private cars are barred. The city's shuttle from Imjingak is the way in unless you bring a chartered 45-seat coach with 30 to 45 people.

Do I choose the monorail or is it assigned?

It is set by the departure. The five sessions marked ‘mono’ on the timetable use the monorail. Online buyers pay the walking-course price for these sessions and pay the lift charge separately on site. Under the notice dated 23 September 2026, tickets for the 09:20 session are available only at the on-site ticket office. If the monorail fails, that departure converts to walking.

What ID do I need?

A physical resident registration card, driving licence or passport for Koreans; a passport, alien registration card or US military ID for foreigners. Screenshots and photographs of an ID are refused, as is an expired passport. A separate FAQ on the same official site also tells foreign visitors to carry a passport, so foreign visitors should bring the original passport and check the latest guidance before visiting. Only three mobile IDs are accepted and PASS-type carrier apps are not among them.

Is there a guide?

No. Paju provides no guide or commentator on the DMZ Peace Tour. A group that wants one has to arrange it themselves and bring them along.

Do foreign visitors get a discount?

No. Paju City's ordinance on tourism facility charges does not make foreigners eligible for any reduction, and the operator says so explicitly.
