Four Jeonju Bibimbap Houses and a Bean-Sprout Soup: Three in One Lane, One 4.7 km Out

Every restaurant in Jeonju this site has a sourced record for — five of them. Four serve bibimbap and one serves bean-sprout soup; the three nearest the Hanok Village sit within 33 m and 212 m of each other, while Gogung alone is in a different district, 4.7 km away. None of the five publishes its opening hours or its prices.

A bowl of Jeonju bibimbap served at Hangukjip — vegetables, beef and yellow mung-bean jelly over rice in a stone bowl, with six side dishes

These five are not a ranking. They are every restaurant in Jeonju this site holds a sourced record for. Four are bibimbap houses that come from the city's own page of Jeonju bibimbap restaurants, and one is a bean-sprout soup house that comes from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' Century Shops register.

So the question this article actually answers is not which is best — it is where these five are in relation to each other. That turns out to split further than you would expect.

Before you go

  • Four connect on foot. One does not.

Hangukjip, Gajok Hoegwan, Hasukyeong Gamasot Bibimbap and Sambaekjip are all within 1.2 km of the Hanok Village. Gogung alone is across the stream in Deokjin-gu, 4.7 km out.

  • Two of them share a lane

Gajok Hoegwan is number 17 and Hasukyeong Gamasot Bibimbap is 19-3 on Jeollagamyeong 5-gil — 33 m apart. Go by the street number, not the name.

  • None of the five publishes its hours

Both sources list the name and the location and no times at all. This is a list to check on arrival, not one to build a timetable from.

  • One of the five is not bibimbap

Sambaekjip serves kongnamul-gukbap, the bean-sprout soup Jeonju eats in the morning — so it is not competing for the same meal as the other four.

Four are in one neighbourhood and one is in another district

Straight-line distances from Jeonju Hanok Village, computed from the coordinates this site holds. These are straight lines, not walking distances.

  • Hangukjip 529 m — the nearest of the five.
  • Gajok Hoegwan 700 m
  • Hasukyeong Gamasot Bibimbap 716 m
  • Sambaekjip 1,143 m
  • Gogung 4,692 m — in a different district from the other four.

The distances between them split the same way. The first four sit within 33 m to 700 m of one another; Gogung is at least 4,077 m from any of them.

The closest pair is 33 m apart, the furthest 4.5 km

  • Gajok Hoegwan ↔ Hasukyeong Gamasot Bibimbap, 33 m — numbers 17 and 19-3 on one lane.
  • Gajok Hoegwan ↔ Hangukjip, 212 m
  • Hangukjip ↔ Hasukyeong Gamasot Bibimbap, 241 m
  • Sambaekjip ↔ Hasukyeong Gamasot Bibimbap, 436 m
  • Gogung ↔ Gajok Hoegwan, 4,374 m
  • Gogung ↔ Hangukjip, 4,547 m — the furthest pair.

So "compare four Jeonju bibimbap houses" divides into three and one. The first three can genuinely be compared within one lane; Gogung is somewhere you go separately.

What searching for the name "Gogung" actually gets you

Search for Jeonju bibimbap and Gogung comes up again and again. The address this site holds for it is 33 Songcheonjungang-ro, Deokjin-gu, which is across the Jeonju stream and 4.7 km north of the Hanok Village.

That does not make it the wrong restaurant. It makes it the wrong name to drop into a Hanok Village day. If you are planning a day on foot around the village, pick from the first four; Gogung is a separate trip.

None of the five publishes hours or prices

A list to check on arrival, not one to build a timetable from

What this site has verified for these five is the name, the address and the coordinates. Opening hours, rest days and prices are not among them.

The city's tourism page lists its bibimbap restaurants by name and carries no times, and the Century Shops register lists its shops with their locations and no times either. We have not filled that gap with hours from somewhere else.

It is possible to say what Jeonju bibimbap generally costs — but that is not the price at these houses. So the price column is empty.

🔴 We did not use the categories that page puts them in

The city's tourism page does not simply list its bibimbap restaurants. It sorts them into several groups, and those group names would have made a good comparison axis for this article — a classification the source itself publishes.

We did not use them. The page was read twice and the two readings disagreed. One put Gogung and Gajok Hoegwan in one group; the other put all four houses in a different single group; and the two readings did not even produce the same list of group names.

What the two readings did agree on was one thing: that the four names appear on that page. So that is the only claim this article makes from it. Which house belongs to which group is not written here. Using an unverified classification as an axis would have made the table look better and its contents invented.

So the axis came from the addresses instead

What this article actually compares is where each house is, and those values come from what the two sources print as text. The distances are computed by this site from the coordinates attached to those addresses. Both are things that give the same answer when you read them twice.

Frequently asked questions

Can I do all five in one day?

Four yes, one no. Hangukjip, Gajok Hoegwan, Hasukyeong Gamasot Bibimbap and Sambaekjip are all within 1.2 km of the Hanok Village and within 700 m of each other. Gogung is in Deokjin-gu — 4.7 km from the village and 4.1 to 4.5 km from each of the other four. Unless you are willing to make that trip for one meal, choose from the first four.

Why are Gajok Hoegwan and Hasukyeong Gamasot Bibimbap so close together?

They are on the same lane. The addresses are 17 and 19-3 Jeollagamyeong 5-gil, and the coordinates this site holds put them 33 m apart. It is easy to walk into the wrong one looking for the name, so check the street number.

Can I find out the opening hours and rest days?

Not for any of the five. The city's tourism page lists bibimbap restaurants by name without hours, and the Century Shops register lists its shops with their locations and no hours either. We have not filled the gap with times from somewhere else. So this is a list to check on arrival, not one to build a timetable from.

How much does a meal cost?

Nothing this site has verified for these five includes a price. It is possible to say what Jeonju bibimbap generally costs, but that is not the price at these houses, so the column is empty.

Are these the best bibimbap houses in Jeonju?

That is not what this list is. There are five because five is every restaurant in Jeonju this site holds a sourced record for. The city's own bibimbap page alone runs to more than thirty.
