Seoul in a Day: Palace, Hanok Alleys, and a Night Market

Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, and Dongdaemun, all in one day. The three are close enough together that getting between them is easy, and the mix takes you from a royal palace in the morning to a late-night market by evening.

This course starts at Gyeongbokgung to beat the crowds, but if your evening plans are flexible, swapping the palace and Bukchon stops works just as well.

Getting between stops

Getting from Bukchon to Dongdaemun takes one subway transfer. Double-check the transfer corridor and any temporary construction notices in a transit app before you go, since station work can change routes without much notice.

Bukchon is a residential neighborhood — and visiting hours are restricted

The "special management zone" (redzone) around Bukchon-ro 11-gil only allows tourist visits between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.; being there for sightseeing outside those hours can carry a 100,000-won fine (in effect since March 2025). This itinerary's alley walk (11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.) falls inside the allowed window, but check ahead if you're visiting at a different time. People live here, so keep noise down and don't step onto private property.
