Getting from Gimpo Airport into Seoul

Gimpo Airport is inside Seoul, so the run into the city is shorter and cheaper than it is from Incheon. From Gimpo Airport station, connected to the terminals underground, you pick whichever of AREX, Subway Line 5 and Subway Line 9 suits where you are going.

Where you are going decides the line

The station sits underneath the airport, and AREX, Subway Line 5 and Subway Line 9 all stop there. Gimpo Airport's own guidance says the subway escalator on the west side of the domestic terminal's first floor leads down to it. Both terminals reach the same station by following the signs downstairs.

The Line 9 express fills up

Gimpo is near the western end of Line 9, so an express train is often where you can still find a seat. With a lot of luggage at rush hour, though, the all-stop service can be the easier ride.

Set against the same trip from Incheon, the gap is the point. Incheon Terminal 1 to Seoul Station is KRW 4,750; from Gimpo it is KRW 1,750.

Discounts, and what a single-use card costs

Children — Aged 6 to under 13. A 550 won base fare, with the per-section distance component at 50% of the adult rate.
Youth — Aged 13 to 18. A 900 won base fare, with the per-section distance component at 80% of the adult rate.
Infants — Under 6 travels free, up to three infants per accompanying adult.
Seniors and other eligible passengers — Free, on presentation of the relevant ID or with a concessionary transit card.
Single-use card surcharge — The fares above assume a prepaid or postpaid transit card. A single-use card adds 100 won to the adult fare.
Single-use card deposit — A 500 won deposit on a single-use card, refunded at the destination station.

If you need to transfer to Incheon

Landing at Gimpo on a domestic flight and leaving from Incheon on an international one — or the reverse — is a common itinerary. AREX connects the two airports directly, with no transfer.

Gimpo to Incheon Terminal 1 is KRW 4,350, and to Terminal 2 KRW 4,950.

Leave much more time than you think

Journey times and service intervals on the Gimpo–Incheon stretch vary by day and by hour, so check the operator's official timetable before you set off. Check-in and security still sit on top of the journey between the two airports. If you are connecting to an international flight, leave a generous margin.

With heavy bags, or after the last train

Both AREX and the subway involve stairs and, for some destinations, a transfer. With large cases or a group, a taxi is a reasonable choice — and because Gimpo is inside Seoul, a taxi from here costs less than one out of Incheon.
