Most mistimed visits to Dongdaemun come from not making this distinction.

Wholesale-focused complexes are where traders buy stock. Their hours can differ from the retail malls, and some units may not sell single pieces or at retail prices. Jung-gu lists Dongdaemun's main shopping complexes as Doota (두타), Migliore (밀리오레), Lotte Fitin (롯데피트인), Goodmorning City (굿모닝시티), Hyundai City Outlet (현대시티아울렛), Designer Club (디자이너클럽), Pyeonghwa Market (평화시장), Gwanghui Fashion Mall (광희패션몰), Nampyeonghwa Market (남평화시장), Jeil Pyeonghwa Market (제일평화시장), Dongpyeonghwa Market (동평화시장), DIOT (디오트) and U:US (유어스). The Korean names are included so you can search for them.

Of these, Doota Mall is the only one whose published hours this guide has checked. Once you have picked where to go at night, check each other building's own information or its map-app listing before you set out, and include one building with confirmed hours as a fallback in case the first is shut.

Three lines meet here, so it is easy to reach from many parts of Seoul — and if you plan to stay late, check the last train in your direction before you settle in.

Bring a card and some cash if you go at night

Payment options can differ between large mall tenants and small units, so carrying a little cash alongside a card is the safe choice.
