The page the preservation society files under visitor information is not a timetable. It is a request that you understand the residents cannot rebuild their own kitchens, and that a village with nobody in it would not be worth preserving.

- The preservation society's 입장시간 안내 table gives both seasons the same opening time and calls the other figure an admission deadline rather than a closing time; it states no closing time anywhere. The village is open every day of the year, and free for everyone on 1 January, on Seollal itself and on Chuseok itself. Free entry also covers Korean nationals aged 65 and over, visitors with a disability (grades 1-3 with one companion), under-sixes with a guardian, national merit and war veterans, basic-livelihood recipients, and Hahoe residents. Andong and Yecheon residents pay 1,000 won as an adult rather than 5,000. Cars cannot enter the village — a barrier went up on 17 August 2021 and electric vehicles were barred with it — and camping, sleeping in a vehicle and cooking are all prohibited under the River Act. There are no restaurants inside the village. The free mask-dance performance runs 14:00 to 15:00: Saturdays and Sundays in January and February, Tuesday to Sunday from March to December, dark on Mondays — though the table the society publishes is headed 2025년도 상설공연 안내, so this year's schedule needs re-checking. Andong City's tourism page prints the same admission times under a different heading.

What to see
Yangjindang
The head house of the Pungsan Ryu, and the home of Ryu Un-ryong. Four bays by three under a hipped-and-gabled roof, with three bays of raised floor, one heated room, and a railed veranda around the outside that makes it read like a pavilion. A second plaque names it after his father's pen name.
Chunghyodang
The house of Ryu Seong-ryong, chief state councillor through the Japanese invasions. Its three parts were built by three different descendants — his grandson raised the men's and women's quarters, a great-grandson enlarged them, and the gate range came from the eighth generation. The plaque over the hall is said to be in the hand of Heo Mok.
Hwagyeongdang (the North Village house)
With Yangjindang, the large house that stands for the north half of the village, and it sits in the middle of it. Built in 1862 by Ryu Do-seong, with inner and outer quarters, a detached wing, a gate range and a shrine. The plaque in the great room is attributed to Han Seok-bong.
Ogyeonjeongsa
Built in 1586 by Ryu Seong-ryong for study and for teaching, on the riverbank east of the Buyongdae cliff. Its four parts stand apart from each other, and the inner house puts the kitchen in the middle with rooms either side — a village plan rather than a gentry one. This is where the *Jingbirok* is said to have been written.
Gyeomamjeongsa
Built in 1567 by Ryu Un-ryong, the elder brother, on the cliff west of Buyongdae. The study is a two-storey pavilion facing south over the village with the living quarters behind it, and the plaque is said to be in the hand of his teacher Yi Hwang.
The Mansongjeong pine grove
Planted on the sand the river laid down as it turned around the village — ten thousand pines put in by Ryu Un-ryong to settle the force of the Buyongdae cliff opposite. A Natural Monument since 2006.
The Hahoe masks
The oldest surviving Korean dance masks, and a National Treasure: eleven from Hahoe and two from neighbouring Byeongsan. Willow under two or three coats of lacquer, with the jaw carved separately and hung on a cord so it moves as if speaking. Most Korean masks were gourd or paper and were burnt once the year's dance was over, which is why almost none of them are old.
The Hahoe Byeolsingut mask dance
The rite the masks were made for, held at the first full moon of the year, and hedged about with prohibitions the village kept strictly. It is a National Intangible Heritage.

The view of Hahoe that every guide uses is taken from up here, and there is no way across the water from the village to reach it.
Byeongsan Seowon
Two UNESCO World Heritage sites sit 3 km apart here, and the bus that links them runs three times a day. Everything about a visit follows from that one number.
Kkachigumeongjip
A heot-jesabap house by the Woryeonggyo bridge. Its Century Shop citation records that it divides the table two ways — a 양반상 with croaker and a 성현상 with salted mackerel.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a visit take?
The preservation society says two to four hours on foot, because there are more houses than visitors expect. Allow about four hours if you want the mask dance at 14:00, and a full day if you are adding Buyongdae and Byeongsan Seowon.
How do I get to Hahoe Village by bus?
City bus 210 from Andong, cash fare 1,500 won, about 50 minutes. It used to be numbered 246 and changed in March 2022. Thirteen departures a day, the first at 06:30 and the last bus back from Hahoe at 19:10.
Can I get to Byeongsan Seowon from Hahoe without a car?
Yes, but only on three buses a day: the 210 runs that leave Andong at 08:20, 11:00 and 14:05. On foot it is an hour and a quarter along the flank of Hwasan, on an unpaved and dusty road.
