The Jinju Namgang Lantern Festival floats hundreds of colorful lanterns on the Nam River on autumn nights. It's one of Korea's signature lantern festivals, and the lights reflecting off the water and lining the riverbanks are genuinely spectacular.

When to go

The 2026 festival runs October 3–18 around the Nam River and Jinju Fortress. Official information lists lantern lighting from 18:00 to midnight, with floating bridges and experience booths generally operating 13:00–23:00. Individual programs can vary.

Getting there and tips

Jinju is reachable by intercity bus or train. Weekend evenings get crowded, so give yourself extra time, and bring a jacket — it gets chilly after dark.

While you're there, Jinju Fortress and the surrounding food stalls are worth pairing with the festival.
