- No admission is published for the cliff either. Reaching it means leaving Hahoe Village and crossing the Gwangdeokgyo bridge, so it does not fit inside a Hahoe visit without a separate journey.

History
Each year on the 16th day of the seventh lunar month, Hahoe's scholars held Hahoe Seonyu Julbullori (the rope-fire play) on a summer night on the river below Buyongdae, alongside a boat outing and poetry gathering. The river is called Hwacheon, another name for the Nakdonggang River taken from Hwasan, and the cliff above it rises more than 70 metres. For the rope-fire play, ropes were stretched from the clifftop across the river and sandy bank to the Mansongjeong pine grove, with hundreds of charcoal bags hung from them to produce small bursts of sparks in the air. It was held once as a celebration after liberation, but the preparation required means it cannot be held often.

Hwacheon Seowon
At the eastern foot of Buyongdae, Confucian scholars who honoured the learning and virtue of Ryu Un-ryong (pen name Gyeomam) built Gyeongdeoksa (the shrine) to enshrine him in September 1786, the tenth year of King Jeongjo's reign. After the decree abolishing seowon in the fifth year of King Gojong's reign only the lecture hall and the kitchen building remained; descendants raised funds from 1966 to restore the buildings and completed the seowon again in 1996.
