Getting from Cheongju Airport to Daejeon

Cheongju International Airport is not in Daejeon — it is in Cheongju, in North Chungcheong. The distance is short. What is scarce is departures: fourteen coaches a day run to Daejeon, and only two of them go to the main terminal.

So this guide asks what time you land before it asks how you travel.

Look at the frequencies first

The airport lists two intercity coach routes to Daejeon. The fares are close; the frequencies differ six-fold.

🔵 Yuseong is the practical default. Daejeon Complex Terminal sounds more central, but from this airport it has two departures a day.

Check the timetable on the day

The airport's own coach listing says that services are cut and thinned at the operator's discretion, and that you should confirm on the booking sites before travelling. With so few departures to begin with, one missing coach opens a large gap before the next.

The coach to Yuseong terminal

The fare is KRW 6,500 on a premium coach and KRW 5,000 on a standard one. Both grades run on this route, so check which one you are buying.

Get off at Yuseong terminal and change to the metro. Yuseong Spa station on Daejeon Metro Line 1 is close by, and the line carries on towards the government complex, the city hall and Daejeon station.

Changing to the KTX at Osong

If you have missed the two Complex Terminal coaches, or you want Daejeon station directly, there is a way round through Osong. The high-speed line and the Chungbuk line both call at Osong, and Daejeon is the very next stop.

Take route 747 from bay 4. Leave through gate 2. It costs KRW 2,050 by card and KRW 2,100 in cash, and runs from 05:40 to 00:35 — a longer service day than anything else in this guide.

There is a railway station inside the airport

It is not well known, but Cheongju Airport station sits on the airport's own land. It is a Chungbuk line station, and its platform board points towards Jochiwon and Daejeon.

Buy the ticket in the terminal first. Cheongju Airport station is an unstaffed halt, so tickets are sold at the tourist information counter on the first floor of the passenger terminal.
Then walk about 600 m to the station. It is on airport land, but it is not attached to the terminal.

Every passenger train on the Chungbuk line calls here. But the Chungbuk line is not a frequent route, and for the reason above this article does not print its timetable. Check with Korail before you set out.

🔵 With heavy luggage, 600 m is not short. If you are taking a train either way, route 747 to Osong is usually the easier version of the same idea.

The airport publishes no estimate per destination. What it does publish is the meter and the surcharges.

Daejeon is outside Cheongju's operating area, so a 20% surcharge applies. Late at night a further band is added on top — 20% from 22:00 to 23:00, 40% from 23:00 to 02:00, and 20% from 02:00 to 04:00. Hailing the car through an app adds KRW 1,000.

Is the station inside the airport actually useful?

Cheongju Airport station is on airport land about 600 m from the passenger terminal, and every Chungbuk line passenger train calls there. But it is unstaffed, so you must buy the ticket at the terminal's first-floor tourist information counter beforehand, and the Chungbuk line is not frequent.

Yuseong terminal or Daejeon station — which should I aim for?

For Yuseong or Dunsan, take the coach to Yuseong. For Daejeon station or Jung-gu, going via Osong and the KTX is usually better. Yuseong terminal also connects to the centre through Yuseong Spa station on Metro Line 1.
