Getting from Gimhae Airport into Busan

Gimhae International Airport is inside Busan — its address is in the city's Gangseo district. But it sits at the western edge, so reaching the centre still takes one more journey. There are four ways to make it: the light rail, a limousine coach, a city bus, or a taxi.

Where you are going decides how you go

Counting the intercity coaches, the airport lists fifteen bus services. Narrowed to the ones that go into Busan, this is all of them.

The shuttle between the two terminals is free

You can walk between the domestic and international terminals, but a free airport shuttle runs every 12 minutes from 05:00 to 22:48. Board at gate 1 at the international terminal, gate 4 at the domestic one.

Walking to the light rail

A covered walkway links the terminals to Airport station on the Busan–Gimhae light rail. This is the way from the terminal door to a Busan Metro train.

Leave the terminal and follow the walkway. The overhead signs point back to the terminal and on to the station. At the far end, the sign above the glass doors reads Busan-Gimhae Light Rail (Airport Station).

Read the name beside the plate and pick your direction. Airport station sits mid-line, and there is a Busan Metro interchange on each side of it: towards Seobusan Yutongjigu for Sasang and Line 2, towards Deokdu for Daejeo and Line 3.

Towards Sasang is not the only way into Busan

The light rail is a single line between Sasang and Kaya University, and the airport sits squarely in the middle of it. Both directions reach the Busan Metro — Line 2 on the Sasang side, and Line 3 three stops the other way at Daejeo. Do not read "towards Kaya University" as simply "towards Gimhae".

Carry on past Daejeo and you are heading into Gimhae. Every platform carries the next station's name beside the name plate; use that.

Light-rail fares and last trains

The light rail charges by zone, not by the distance between two stations. Below is everything it publishes.

Busan–Gimhae Light Rail fares

Adult (19 and over), transit card — Zone 1 KRW 1,600; zone 2 KRW 1,800.
Adult, single-journey ticket — Zone 1 KRW 1,700; zone 2 KRW 1,900.
Youth (13 to 18) — By transit card KRW 1,000 in zone 1 and KRW 1,150 in zone 2; by single-journey ticket KRW 1,100 and KRW 1,250.
Child (6 to 12) — Free with a transit card. A single-journey ticket is KRW 750 in zone 1 and KRW 850 in zone 2.
Infant (5 and under) — Free when accompanied. An infant travelling alone, or the fourth and further infants with one adult, counts as a child.
65 and over — Pays the adult fare. Unlike Busan's metro, this line has no free travel for seniors.
Concessions — Travellers with disabilities (severe cases with one companion), persons of national merit (grade 1 with one companion), and independence and May 18 merit holders travel free on production of their card.
How the zones are drawn — Zone 1 is a journey between the central section (Gimhae College to Pyeonggang) and either outer section — outer 1 (Kaya Univ. to Inje Univ.) or outer 2 (Daejeo to Sasang). Zone 2 is a journey between the two outer sections.
Busan–Gimhae–Yangsan interchange — Across all three cities, boarding the next service within 30 minutes of alighting makes the interchange free, and the total is the highest single fare among the services used — not their sum. Up to two interchanges, three services in all. The KRW 500 interchange surcharge was abolished on 19 September 2025.

This article carries only fares that were verified. The amount from Airport station to Sasang is not printed here — both stations sit inside the same outer section, and the operator's published zone table only defines journeys between sections. Check the amount at the station's ticket machine.

Limousines and city buses

There are only two limousine routes and both leave from bay 3 on the first floor.

Go out to bay 3. From the international terminal use gates 2 or 3; from the domestic terminal, gate 4.

Check the destination display before boarding. Both routes use the same bay, so read whether the coach is running to Seomyeon and Bujeon or to Haeundae.

The limousines do not take cash

Neither route accepts cash. Carry a transit card or a credit card. On the Haeundae route, some departures terminate at Jangsan and others continue to Gijang, so check the timetable if Gijang is where you are going.

City buses cost far less. Route 307 runs to Haeundae and route 3003 (express) to Taejongdae. Both leave from bay 2 on the first floor.

A large suitcase will not be allowed on a city bus

Under Busan's city bus carriage terms, route 307 admits only cabin-sized luggage — up to 20 kg and 50 × 40 × 20 cm per person. With a checked bag you need the limousine, the light rail, or a taxi.

The first bus is 05:15 and the second is 06:15. Early in the morning, missing one costs you an hour.

Taxis

The airport publishes an estimated time and fare to each major destination. What you actually pay moves with traffic and surcharges.

The base fare is KRW 4,800 for the first 2 km in a standard taxi and KRW 7,500 for the first 3 km in a deluxe or large one. Late at night a surcharge applies — 20% from 23:00 to midnight, 30% from midnight to 02:00, and 20% from 02:00 to 04:00.

If you land late

Last departures differ sharply between the options. The light rail runs latest of all, and its last train connects to nothing.

The last light-rail train cannot get you onto the metro

The last Sasang-bound train leaves Airport station at 00:10 and reaches Gwaebeop Renecite at 00:15. But the last Line 2 train from Sasang towards Seomyeon and Haeundae (Jangsan-bound) is 23:45, and the last Line 3 train from Daejeo towards Suyeong is 23:40. Take the last light-rail train and you will get to Sasang after the metro has stopped.

Once route 307 finishes at 23:20, a taxi is effectively the only option. If you know you are landing late, decide before you fly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get from Gimhae Airport to Seomyeon?

The limousine is the simplest. It is KRW 6,000 for an adult and runs from 07:20 to 21:30. Board at bay 3 on the first floor, and bring a transit card or a credit card — it does not take cash. By taxi the airport's published estimate is about 45 minutes and KRW 18,000.

What is the cheapest way to Haeundae?

City bus 307. At KRW 1,550 with a card it is about a sixth of the limousine's KRW 9,500. It runs about every 25 minutes, stops often, and will not take a suitcase larger than cabin size.

Do I pay again when I change from the light rail to the Busan Metro?

No. Board within 30 minutes of getting off and the interchange is free, and the total is the highest single fare among the services used. The route in this guide — the light rail from Airport Station, changing to the Busan Metro at Sasang or Daejeo — is exactly that case.

What if I arrive late at night?

The limousines stop at 21:40 and city bus 307 at 23:20. The light rail runs until 00:10, but the last Line 2 train from Sasang is 23:45, so there is nothing to change onto. After that, a taxi is the realistic choice.

I landed at the domestic terminal — do I need to go to the international one?

No. The limousines and city buses call at both terminals. If you do need to move between them, the free airport shuttle runs every 12 minutes.
