Seoul is a big city, but its subway network is so dense that how close you are to a station matters more than which neighborhood you pick by name. If it's your first visit, the areas below are all safe bets.
Neighborhoods at a glance
- Myeongdong / Euljiro — central, easy shopping and transit access.
- Hongdae / Hapjeong — young and lively, with plenty of food and nightlife.
- Gangnam — modern and polished, geared toward business and shopping.
- Jongno / Insadong — close to traditional sights and palaces.
Pick a station, not just a neighborhood
Good access to Line 2 or the airport railroad (AREX) makes getting around much easier. Check the distance to the nearest station before booking.
