Itaewon Class Filming Locations — Seoul and Suwon

The three confirmed Itaewon Class locations in this guide, set out by scene, by what is there now, and by where they sit. The two in Seoul connect on foot; Suwon Hwaseong comes from a different source and belongs to a different day.

If you are heading for the Itaewon Class locations, the first question is which to combine and in what order. This article covers three public places that Seoul, the Korea Tourism Organization and Suwon City present as locations. Two are in Seoul, in Itaewon and on Namsan, and they connect to each other. The third is Suwon Hwaseong, which comes from a different source entirely.

The two in Seoul are really one shot. The hill you see from Noksapyeong overpass is the second location, so taking them in order means walking the composition the drama kept framing.

Two that connect, one that does not

The Seoul two — Noksapyeong overpass crosses the main Itaewon road in Yongsan, and Baekbeom Plaza sits on the Namsan you can see from its deck. Under 3 km separates them, so they can be walked.

The one in Suwon — Namporu on the Hwaseong wall is named by Suwon City's own drama-location course. It is absent from the Korea Tourism Organization's Itaewon Class list, and at 30 km from Seoul it does not fit the same half-day.

The businesses used in filming are not on this list

The Korea Tourism Organization also documents the bar and the guesthouse used in filming, but this list covers only public places you can visit whether or not a business is trading. Commercial premises change names and close, so if you are going to make one a destination, confirm it is still trading first. If it is, go as a customer.

Take the footbridge first, then climb

What you are looking at from Noksapyeong overpass is Namsan, and Namsan is the second location. Seeing the bridge and then going up follows the drama's own composition on foot. Add the Itaewon backstreets and it fills a half-day.

Which one suits whom

If you are a fan, the basic plan is the overpass and Baekbeom Plaza as one half-day. KTO ranks the overpass as the place that appears most in the series after Danbam, and notes that at night you can see N Seoul Tower and the city lit up from it. If you want the feel of the drama, stand on it after dark.

If you have not seen the drama, the overpass alone is not much of a reason to go. Baekbeom Plaza, on the other hand, is a walk with N Seoul Tower and the Seoul City Wall in view, and KTO also presents it as an autumn-foliage spot. Take it in on a day you are walking Namsan anyway.

If you are going to Suwon, treat Namporu as a point on the Hwaseong rampart walk rather than as a filming location. It is a wall pavilion you pass while walking the fortress, so it is something to stop at because you came for Hwaseong.

Opening times and entry

Noksapyeong overpass — a pedestrian footbridge over the main road, with nothing to enter. People use it to get across, so do not block it while taking photos.

Baekbeom Plaza, Namsan Park — a park that is always open, with no set hours and no admission charge.

Namporu, Suwon Hwaseong — the fortress wall itself is open all year with no set hours and no charge, and the operator says it can be walked at night. The place with hours and tickets is Hwaseong Haenggung, the palace inside the walls; if you are only going to Namporu, the table below matters only if you add the palace.

When the timing slips or one has to go

If you have less than half a day, drop Suwon and see the Seoul two. Neither has opening hours, so all you have to decide is the order.

If you want the overpass at night, reverse the order: walk Namsan in daylight first and come down to the footbridge after dark.

If you reach Suwon after Hwaseong Haenggung has closed, the rampart walk is still open. Namporu is on the wall, so the palace's hours do not affect it.

If the business from the drama you were aiming for is closed, fill the time with the overpass and the Itaewon backstreets on the same road. Checking whether a business is trading comes before you set out.

    The footbridge the drama keeps returning to. Characters meet and part on it repeatedly, so what it carries is not one scene but the series as a whole, and Seoul now presents it as a landmark the drama created. The shot that belongs to this spot is the view from the deck towards Namsan, with N Seoul Tower behind it.

    Baekbeom Plaza in Namsan Park is where the lead characters kiss; KTO says the scene was shot on the road from the park entrance on the Sungnyemun side up to the plaza. Today it is a walking plaza with views of N Seoul Tower and the Seoul City Wall. It is, literally, the hill you were looking at from the footbridge — so taking the two Seoul locations in order means walking the composition the drama kept framing, Itaewon in front and Namsan behind. The park is always open and free.

    Suwon Hwaseong Fortress

    Namporu Pavilion on the fortress wall. Suwon City names this spot for Itaewon Class and for Twenty-Five Twenty-One together. It does not appear on the Korea Tourism Organization's Itaewon Class list at all — only in Suwon's own source — so it differs from the Seoul two in kind as well as in distance.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see all three in one day?

The two in Seoul take about half a day. Noksapyeong overpass and Baekbeom Plaza are under 3 km apart and can be walked, or done faster by bus. Suwon Hwaseong is 30 km from Seoul and does not fit the same half-day — it works better attached to a day you were spending at the fortress anyway.

Can I visit the Danbam bar from the drama?

It is not on this list. The Korea Tourism Organization does document the businesses used in filming, but this list covers only the footbridge, park and fortress that anyone can walk through at any time. Businesses change hands and change names easily, so if you make one your destination, check first that it is still trading — and if it is, go as a customer.

Why is Suwon Hwaseong on the list?

Because Suwon City names Namporu as a location for this drama on its own drama-location course. Suwon Hwaseong does not appear on the Korea Tourism Organization's Itaewon Class page. It is more accurate to read it knowing the source is a different one.

Should I go to the overpass at night?

The drama's version of it is closer to night. The shot that belongs to this spot is the view from the deck towards N Seoul Tower, and that reads closest once the lights are on. It is a working footbridge, though, so do not stand blocking it for long.

Can I see Itaewon itself at the same time?

Yes. The overpass is on the main Itaewon road and runs straight into the backstreets — Seoul presents the two together. Rather than seeing the location and leaving, it makes more sense to plan a half-day that walks Itaewon and Namsan as one.
