Eight Century Shops — and the reason the register wrote down for each

There are two conditions — the record states the Century Shop designation, and it sources that to the Ministry's own designation list.

The four it missed are Gangwon's Ttungbo Naengmyeon, Saembat Makguksu, Chuncheon Myeongmul Dakgalbi and Donghae Sundaeguk — and Gangwon's Chodang Halmeoni Sundubu is in the list below, so this was not a decision to leave the province out. 🔴🔴 And that correction itself published a stale number (second correction, 2026-09-09). The fourteen above was measured against the tree this article shipped in. That measurement answers "was it wrong when written", and it answers it correctly. But the tree the correction shipped into is not that tree — records had moved in between, and it was already eighteen there. The tree you measure to diagnose and the tree you measure to publish are two different trees; the first correction measured only the former and printed it as the current answer.

Against today's tree, eighteen pass. The four that joined came from work on 6 September 2026 that checked six of this site's Century Shop records against the register one by one: Naju Gomtang Ujeongjip, Minjeong Sikdang, Samcheonpo Sikdang and Sinpo Sundae each gained the register itself as a source there. That work changed records and left this article's prose alone — and the first correction, three days later, did not re-count this paragraph either.

The last two out, Hanguk-jip and Yeokjeon Hoegwan, were excluded for citing only a tourism page. Both are in the Ministry's designation list — filed under their corporate names rather than their trading names. Yeokjeon Hoegwan is 주식회사 맛난세상, Hanguk-jip is 유한회사한국집, and both rows carry exactly the addresses these records hold.

🔴 Which is why no search by name could find them. The 6 September check queried the register by trading name and got "absent" — not because they were missing but because they were there under another name. The register files the business entity; this site writes the sign over the door.

🔵 Two distributions of one register also turn out to disagree. The list the Ministry publishes on the public data portal (1,511 rows in the 2026 edition, 1,262 in the 2022 one) holds both; the sbiz.or.kr web listing returns neither, under either name — while Sambaekjip retrieves normally in the same check, so the query itself works.

There is no ranking. The order below is geography, running from Gangneung down to Suncheon.

Set the eight lines side by side and it becomes clear that they are not making the same sort of claim.

Not one of the eight citations says only that the house is old. Dalbit Tteurak's says the reverse — that something was made, not kept — which is the register showing, in a single line, that the scheme is not simply counting years.
