History

Noryangjin Fisheries Market began elsewhere. Its predecessor was the Gyeongseong Municipal Central Wholesale Fish Market, which opened on Uiju-ro in Seodaemun-gu in 1927. Earlier fish markets near Namdaemun Station, in Hoehyeon-dong and on Wonhyo-ro were consolidated there for hygiene and oversight.

In 1971, Korea Cold Storage developed a 69,828-square-metre market in Noryangjin-dong, then part of Yeongdeungpo-gu. The area had long been suited to markets along the Gyeonggang stretch of the Han River, and Nodeul Ferry was an important transport hub. Its position at the centre of the Gyeongin, Gyeongbu, Gyeongho and Yeongdong expressways was also considered when selecting the site. Government policy later led to the closure of the Uiju-ro market and the transfer of its trade to Noryangjin, which became the largest specialist seafood wholesale market at the consuming end of the trade.

The National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives (Suhyup) acquired the market in 2002 and announced plans for a modernised building. The new market opened in 2016, and the old market building was demolished in 2020.

Ichon Hangang Park

A 10.2 km stretch of the north bank from Jungnangcheon Bridge at Geumho-dong to Mancheoncheon Bridge at Ichon-dong. Nodeulseom, the island under Hangang Bridge, is listed among this district's facilities — and the operator notes separately that the island's 120,462 m² is not counted in the park's own 922,185 m². The inline skating rink here covers 14,602 m², with a 400 m road track and a 200 m banked track.

Wednesday and Saturday run to 21:00 — the only evenings you can see this place without daylight pressure.

It has no gate, no fee and no closing time, but it also has no car park anywhere along its 6.3 km — the operator says so outright and tells you to come by train. Which is fitting for a park that used to be one.
