Myeongdong Shopping Street
Central Seoul's best-known shopping district for cosmetics, fashion and tax-refund shopping. Treat it as a neighborhood rather than a single mall because individual stores keep their own hours.

Myeongdong Cathedral
It publishes no visiting hours, because it is a parish rather than an attraction — what it publishes is a Mass timetable. The one clock that does cover the site belongs to 1898 Plaza, the archdiocese-run arcade under the approach, open 09:00 to 22:00 every day but two.
Hadongkwan
A gomtang house in Myeongdong. It opens at seven in the morning and closes at four in the afternoon.

Shinsegae Department Store Main Store
One address, four buildings, and the names changed in 2025 — so a page that still says "main building and annexe" is describing a layout that no longer exists. The reason to come without a shopping budget is on the fourth floor of The Heritage: a free museum of Korean retail history inside a 1935 bank.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book a table?
No. Reservations are not accepted and you get in by queueing. The room seats about 420, so the line moves faster than its length suggests.
When can I get the chilled soybean noodles?
In summer only. In 2026 they went on sale on 15 April, and the restaurant warned that early batches are small and may sell out early in the day. In 2025 the season ended on 12 October.
Will my foreign card work?
Yes. The payment methods recorded on the MICHELIN Guide listing for this restaurant are Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, UnionPay and Diners Club.
Some listings say 29 Myeongdong 10-gil — should I go there?
That is where the main branch used to be. It moved to 129 Toegye-ro in 2026, and listings that copy the old alley address are still circulating — the Michelin Guide's own page for the restaurant still carried it when it was checked on 9 August 2026. Myeongdong 10-gil is not a dead address as such, though: a separate branch trades at number 8 on the same street.
Stories about this place
- Six Seoul houses that make the noodle by hand — kalguksu, guksi, sujebi
Only houses that cut or tear wheat dough by hand and drop it straight into the broth. All six sell a bowl in the ten-thousand-won range, none of them is a spicy dish, and two are walking distance from Gyeongbokgung and Bukchon. The record names the broth at four of the six and not at the other two, and both the difference and the gap are written down here.
