Sungnyemun Gate

숭례문

The southern main gate of the walled city, designated a National Treasure in 1962. Roads now encircle it, so it reads as a gate detached from anything, but the southern run of the city wall once parted here.

Language

Sungnyemun Gate from the front: a two-tiered painted wooden pavilion resting on a granite arched gateway, the restored city wall running to either side and downtown high-rises behind.
