Gimpo Jangneung Royal Tomb
김포 장릉
It opens at 07:00 under the early-admission rule. It is the tomb of Wonjong and Queen Inheon, and the lotus pond inside the precinct is the best-preserved of any left at a Joseon royal tomb.

What to see
History and Culture Hall
Gimpo Jangneung’s history and culture hall first opened in 2016 and was reorganised in 2023. It is arranged in three parts: Jangneung itself — the lives of Wonjong and Queen Inheon, what makes the tomb distinctive, and the people who looked after it; the Joseon royal tombs as a World Heritage site; and a hands-on room with the tomb through the four seasons, a model military stone figure and a scale model of a royal tomb.

Jaesil (Ritual House)
The ritual house is both the working quarters of the officials who managed the tomb and the place where the memorial rites were prepared.

Of the lotus ponds left at any Joseon royal tomb, Jangneung’s is the one whose original form is best preserved.

Jangneung
Jangneung is the tomb of Wonjong, raised to king posthumously, and Queen Inheon of the Gu clan. It takes the twin-mound form, the two mounds set side by side inside one curved screen wall: seen from the front, Wonjong lies on the left (west) and Queen Inheon on the right (east). When Wonjong was raised to king in 1632, further stone objects were added to bring the tomb up to royal form. The incense road and the king’s road run straight up the slope from the red spirit gate to the shrine, with steps set into them where the ground demanded.

The exhibition and convention complex at Ilsan in Goyang, whose halls are turned over to large fan meetings and awards shows. It is in Gyeonggi rather than Seoul, so the journey from a Seoul hotel is its own calculation.
