다대포해수욕장

The beach at Busan's western end, where the Nakdong River meets the sea — wide flats and water so shallow you walk a long way out. It is the side of Busan the sun sets on, which is why people come; the Sunset Fountain of Dreams on its plaza, unlike the beach, rests on Mondays.

The Sunset Fountain of Dreams runs from late April to late September, Tuesday to Sunday: 20:00–20:20 on weekdays in April–August with an extra 21:00–21:20 show at weekends, and each of those 30 minutes earlier in September.

The two-storey house used as the presidential residence during the 1,023 days Busan was the provisional capital in the Korean War. Where the Modern and Contemporary History Museum takes the whole span, this takes one period narrowly — the war and the refuge. Closed Mondays.

Huinnyeoul Culture Village

Houses pressed along a sea cliff on Yeongdo, with a narrow path running beneath them beside the water. Where Gamcheon is colour on a hillside, this is cliff and open sea, and its history is its own — settled by refugees during the Korean War. People live in these lanes; do not block their doors.
