KOREATRAVEL LIST

Seorak Cable Car (Gwongeumseong)

설악 케이블카 (권금성)

The one ticketed thing on the Sokcho side of Seoraksan, and the one whose hours you cannot look up in advance: the operator posts them a day at a time. The fare page is stable, the timetable is not, and the two are on the same website.

Hours notes
The operator publishes no timetable. Where the guide page's 운행시간 안내 would be, it renders 「운행시간 확인중」 beside the line that hours may change with the day's conditions and weather. No advance booking is taken; tickets are sold on the day, on site. If high wind or bad weather stops the cable car, unused tickets are refunded in full; otherwise a refund is full up to ten minutes before boarding and 20 per cent less after that. Fares are round-trip and no one-way ticket is sold, because there is no walking route down from Gwongeumseong. Discounts do not stack and are not given to groups; the operator's 2026 blackout windows are 18 July–23 August and 19 September–15 November, and only the over-65 discount is withheld in them — the disability, national-merit and Sokcho-resident fares apply year-round. It is a five-minute walk from the heritage-zone entrance past the Sogongwon gate to the boarding hall, and parking charges are not the operator's. Heritage zone: 033-636-8755. Trail enquiries: 033-801-0900 (Korea National Park Service).

Frequently asked questions

Can I walk down from Gwongeumseong?

No. There is no descent trail, which is why one-way tickets are not sold. You must ride back down on the cable car.

How long does it take?

Five minutes each way, ten minutes for the round trip, and there is no limit on how long you stay at the top — except that you have to catch the last car. Take the last car up and you get about twenty minutes there.

Is there an entrance fee for the cultural-heritage zone on the way in?

No. The operator's own arrival guide states there is no admission fee, and Sokcho City records Seoraksan National Park as free. The number for questions about the zone is 033-636-8755.
