대릉원
Walking the grounds is free; only Cheonmachong, the one mound you can go inside, charges. Ticketing closes at 21:30, so an evening walk is a real option.

What to see
Tomb of King Michu
The tomb of Silla's thirteenth king, and the one with the story: when Iseoguk invaded, soldiers with bamboo leaves in their hair appeared and drove them off, and afterwards the leaves lay heaped before Michu's tomb. Hence its other name, Jukjangneung — the tomb of the bamboo staffs.
Hwangnamdaechong
Two mounds joined north to south like the humps of a camel — the largest tomb in Gyeongju.
Cheonmachong
Tomb 155, near Hwangnamdaechong. The painted heavenly horse on a saddle flap came out of this one and gave it its name, and it is close to the only tomb whose interior can be entered. Daereungwon is free; Cheonmachong is not.

Gyeongju's type-2 combined heritage ticket covers Daereungwon and Donggung and Wolji. It is sold at both ticket offices, is valid for one day, and is non-refundable once either site has been visited.

A milmyeon house on Hwangnidan-gil. Milmyeon began as displaced northerners' wheat-flour substitute for naengmyeon and took hold first in Busan.
Hwangnidan-gil
A street rather than a site: nothing opens or closes as a whole, and each shop keeps its own hours. It is also the walking link between Daereungwon and the Gyo-dong side.
Gyeongju Wonjo Kongguk
A sixty-year-old shop near the front gate of Daereungwon, serving warm soybean soup topped with black sesame, honey and a glutinous-rice doughnut.
Cheomseongdae Observatory
Small, free and always open. It takes ten minutes, so plan it as the link between Daereungwon and Donggung rather than a destination of its own.

Which tombs should I look for?
Michuwangneung, the 13th king's tomb and a spring blossom spot; Hwangnamdaechong, the largest in Gyeongju; and Cheonmachong, the only one open inside.
Is Cheonmachong worth the ticket?
It is the one Silla mound whose interior is accessible, and it is the cheapest ticket in Gyeongju. If you have never been inside a burial mound, yes. If you have already seen Silla gold in a museum, the free grounds are the better hour.

It gives Bus 10's first departure at 06:00 and last at 21:40 from the express/intercity bus terminal, a headway of about 20 minutes, and 35–45 minutes from the terminal to Bulguksa, the turning point, when the bus does not stop in between. For each attraction it publishes the name of the stop to get off at, the stop's ID and the walk from it. Bus 11 runs the same route in the opposite direction, and Bus 10-1 turns back at Gyeongju World rather than reaching Bulguksa.
