Four Places in Seoul Where the Name Misleads: Gwangjang, the Noryangjin Auction, Lotte World and Cheongwadae

Anyone going to Gwangjang for bindaetteok is going not to the market but to the food alley inside it. The two do not keep the same clock.

Five hours apart. And Sunday matters more: go to Gwangjang on a Sunday and the market is shut while the food alley is open. The operator writes the days of operation as one line — Mon–Sat, food alley year round.

So "how late is Gwangjang Market open?" has two correct answers, and the alley's is almost always the one people want.

The Noryangjin auction has no opening and closing hours to look up. An auction has a time it begins; it is not defined by a time it ends. What you need instead is the starting hour and the day of the week.

The market itself runs 00:00–24:00 and effectively never shuts. The auction, though, does not happen on Sundays. Inside a building open around the clock, one day a week nothing takes place.

The same page gives two different starting times, though. The hours field reads "Auction, Daily 00:00", while the body of that same page says daily auctions "take place from 1 am to 4 am". Midnight or one in the morning, decided differently within one document.

For a plan built around going out in the middle of the night, that hour is not small. Only the operator can say which figure is current, so confirm it before you set out.

The 3,000-won gap is one museum. For teenagers it is 56,000 against 54,000, so 2,000; for children 48,000 against 47,000, so 1,000; and for babies both are 16,000, so there is no gap at all — an infant gets the museum thrown in.

Hours are 10:00–21:00 Sunday to Thursday and 10:00–22:00 on Friday and Saturday, with last admission an hour before closing — carried alongside the operator's own caveat that hours may vary from day to day.

These prices come from the Korea Tourism Organization. The operator's own price page is drawn by script in the browser, so fetching it returns no figures and this article could not check them against it — look at that page before buying.

It opened to the public in 2022, but visiting was suspended on 1 August 2025 and had not resumed as of August 2026. The stated reason was a security and facilities review ahead of the presidential office returning to the site, and on 10 September 2025 the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said only that the direction of any resumption, and the future of the foundation that ran the tours, were still under discussion. No date was given.

Nor is there a booking channel. opencheongwadae.kr, which used to take reservations, does not answer; cheongwadae.go.kr now resolves to a CDN edge presenting a certificate for a different name.

The presidential website carries no visiting section at all. Fetch that page and count: the word 청와대 appears eight times, in the organisation chart and the information-disclosure menus, and 관람, "visiting", appears zero times.

Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon Hanok Village and Jongmyo Shrine are all within walking distance and all publish their opening information. How far into the grounds anyone may go is outside what this article verified, so follow on-site signage anywhere adjoining the complex.
