Gwakji Gwamul Beach
The designated season is the whole planning problem: outside it the shore is open but unstaffed, and inside it Gwakji is one of the beaches that closes at 19:00 with no evening extension. It is also the far end of the Handam Coastal Trail, so it is rarely worth driving to on its own.

Which trail should I take?
The east one, unless you want the harder climb. There are entrances on both the east and west sides and the west trail is the steeper of the two.
Is there an entrance fee or a closing time?
No fee, and it is open year round. Notably it has no forest-fire closure period, which not every Jeju trail can say. There is a public car park at the entrance.
Does the Jeju Fire Festival still burn the hillside?
No. The oreum burn was abolished and replaced from 2025 by a digital fire — a media-art show across the whole hill. The 2026 festival did revive the torch parade and the moon-house burning, which use real flame, but the hillside itself is no longer set alight.
When is the silver grass at its best?
October. It fills the oreum from the base upward, and since the lower slope is nearly flat you can enjoy it without climbing.
Can I bring a dog?
Yes, with a leash or harness kept under 2 metres and waste picked up. Be aware Visit Jeju warns about snakes and ticks on the oreum.
